Financial police in Florence confiscated assets of a Russian businessman worth 41 million euros at the request of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine.

According to La Repubblica and Corriere Fiorentino, the man is one of the richest people in the world. He works in the raw material trade sector, owns ports, sponsors sports teams, and invests in the chemical and fertilizer sectors.

The businessman’s Ukrainian affairs are related to corruption and fraud in a company engaged in agricultural product trading worth more than 60 million dollars, as well as money laundering.

According to La Repubblica, the Russian re-invested part of the illegally obtained funds and, through a trust company, acquired ownership of a company that owns a "large and luxurious real estate complex" in Florence worth 3 million euros.

Four other properties worth almost 38 million were also confiscated. According to the media, the businessman acquired the 12th century Torre del Gallo castle.
