Kushner and Witkoff urge Trump to invest in Russia: why experts are skeptical

According to ТСН: There are active discussions among US President Donald Trump's circle regarding opportunities for American businesses in Russia if the war in Ukraine comes to an end.

According to sources, billionaire and Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff, along with Jared Kushner, believe that Russia's return to the global economy could yield profits for investors and improve relations between Moscow, Kyiv, and European countries.

“However, experts well-acquainted with the Russian economy assess such expectations with much skepticism.”

Geopolitical risk analyst Charles Hacker, who worked in the USSR and Russia for over 40 years, considers Russia to be no “El Dorado” for investors, and the potential profits are greatly overestimated.

Under Vladimir Putin's autocracy, foreign businesses may face risks such as asset confiscation or security threats.

Kushner and Witkoff are not the first American businessmen to see prospects in Russia. However, many veterans of the unstable economy doubt that Russia is ready to generously reward American investors or that many of them are interested in cooperating with Putin's regime after sanctions are lifted.

Economists point out that Russia's economy, which is $2.5 trillion, comparable to Italy's economy, suffers from limited long-term growth prospects, a declining population, diminishing available oil reserves, and a lack of growth incentives other than energy.

It is also reported that the US is considering new measures to limit Russia's oil trading capabilities, including targeting the so-called “shadow fleet” of Russian tankers used for oil delivery, and traders who support these operations.

In the current geopolitical situation, the US is trying to find ways to reduce Russia's influence in the global energy market. This may affect not only energy security but also economic relations between states if the situation improves.
