Green energy in Ukraine is coming to a halt: who is to blame and what will happen next.
Challenges for green energy in Ukraine
According to inkorr.com: The development of green energy in Ukraine is facing serious problems related to debts in the electricity market and insufficient funding for producers using renewable energy sources (RES). This was reported by Olga Savchenko, head of the legal committee of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association.
It is necessary to allocate funds in advance for the financing of RES. There were good examples when funds from the sale of cross-border electricity export rights, which are received by NEC 'Ukrenergo', were partially distributed for payment to RES. There was a wonderful practice of surplus funds in the dispatch tariff and redistribution of these funds for payment. It seems to me that when there is an opportunity, these mechanisms should be applied again,' - said Savchenko.
Savchenko also emphasized the importance of ensuring the tariff of NEC 'Ukrenergo', which should cover the costs of the 'Guaranteed Buyer' for electricity produced from renewable sources.
I believe that 100% of the tariff payment should be allocated and fully provided for in the part that NEC 'Ukrenergo' has to pay to the 'Guaranteed Buyer' so that it can settle with RES producers. This is extremely important. And these funds must indeed be distributed for payment to RES producers,' - she emphasized.
Debt situation in the electricity market
Doctor of Economic Sciences Adrian Prokip previously noted that debts in the electricity market are one of the key factors hindering the attraction of investors to the domestic energy sector.
The discussion of problems in the development of green energy in Ukraine highlights the systemic challenges facing the energy sector, including debts and lack of funding for RES producers. Experts emphasize the need for guaranteed funding and proper tariff payments that could promote the development of this area.
In the context of the growing role of renewable energy in global practice, Ukraine has the potential to become a key player in this market. However, to realize this potential, it is crucial to address existing financial issues and ensure stability in tariff policy, which will serve as the basis for attracting new investments and developing modern technologies in the energy sector.
