Russian attack on thermal power plants: duration of power outages will increase to 12 hours.
Without Electricity: Destruction at Thermal Power Plants
Ukraine expects an increase in the duration of power outages to 8-12 hours per day due to damage to the Tripolskaya and Zmievskaya thermal power plants during the missile-drone attack by the Russian Federation. This will lead to serious problems in the transmission of electricity from nuclear power plants, as reported by energy experts.
According to inkorr.com: As a result of the attack by the Russian military on strategically important infrastructure, the company 'Centrenergo' lost the Tripolskaya and Zmievskaya thermal power plants, which led to a decrease in electricity production. The Uglegorskaya TPP, which has remained under occupation since 2022, also does not operate.
The situation is assessed as critical but controllable. Although nuclear power plants continue to operate, the transmission networks have suffered significant damage. Recovery at the thermal power plants may take weeks or even months, creating risks for electricity supply during the winter period.
Given the damage to thermal power plants, Ukraine faces an increase in electricity outages to 8-12 hours per day, complicating power supply in the winter.
This situation underscores the vulnerability of the Ukrainian energy infrastructure, especially amid the ongoing military conflict. Immediate efforts to restore damaged stations are critically important to ensure the stability of electricity supply. The government and relevant agencies must make every effort to mitigate the negative effects on the population and industry.
