Tomato prices are falling again: imports have increased market supply.
According to ТСН: In Ukraine, a new decline in tomato prices has been recorded. Imported tomatoes have become cheaper after a slight price increase last week, which significantly reduced market demand.
Experts note that this week, sales of local greenhouse vegetables reached a minimum level, as most farms have completed their season. At the same time, imports have increased, causing a sharp rise in supply and impacting price dynamics.
Price situation in the market
By the end of the working week, wholesale prices fell to 65–75 UAH/kg ($1.54–1.78/kg), which is approximately 13% lower than last week's level. Producers explain this trend by the simultaneous decline in demand and active import of tomatoes. However, traders note that the quality of imported goods does not always meet buyers' expectations.
Prospects for tomato prices
Currently, imported tomatoes are being sold at an average of 10% cheaper compared to the same period last year. Wholesalers do not rule out the possibility of further price decreases: if demand remains weak, companies will have to lower prices to avoid accumulating goods in warehouses.
It should be noted that in Ukraine, cucumber prices have reached their highest level in at least the last 8 years.
The decline in tomato prices indicates changes in the market situation and demand. Quality issues with imported goods may influence consumer preferences, so producers may need to seek new approaches to attract buyers. At the same time, the situation with cucumbers underscores the overall trend of price instability for vegetables in Ukraine.
