Verkhovna Rada demands salary increases for teachers: what will change.
According to inkorr.com: The Committee of the Verkhovna Rada called on the Prime Minister and the Budget Committee to urgently address the issue of raising teachers' salaries to the level of three minimum wages and changing the structure of remuneration.
The head of the committee, Serhiy Babak, noted that the government did not include amendments regarding three minimum wages in the budget project due to the need for additional funding of over 20 billion hryvnias.
'To implement the reform requires 13.497 billion hryvnias', - Babak emphasized.
He also stressed that more than half of this money returns to the budget in the form of taxes.
Babak emphasized that without implementing the reform, the state continues to fund the training of a large number of young teachers, who later leave the teaching profession due to insufficient funding.
Salary increases for young teachers
According to the salary increase plan, a young teacher with an 18-hour workload will receive 10,845 hryvnias after September 1, which is an increase of 33% instead of the promised 50%.
This increase is planned as a separate supplement, not as a structural increase, which raises distrust among teachers.
'We did everything possible for a young teacher to receive 19,975 hryvnias. The Ministry of Finance made tremendous efforts to find additional funds for teachers. We have come a long way, and it makes no sense to give up six months before the goal', - Babak emphasized.
The government's demand for salary increases for teachers is linked to the need to raise payment to the level of three minimum wages. According to Serhiy Babak, the reform is vital as low salaries lead to a loss of young educators. The planned increase for young teachers is not satisfactory since the increase is only 33%, not 50%, and is provided as a supplement rather than a structural increase.
These events highlight the ongoing challenges faced by the education system in Ukraine. Despite the government's efforts, there remains significant concern in the community about the working conditions and financial provision for teachers, which could impact the quality of education in the country. Without proper support, educators may continue to seek opportunities in other fields, exacerbating the issue of staff shortages in education.
