This announcement coincides with the first anniversary of the 100-year partnership agreement between Ukraine and the UK. The UK's total contribution to Ukraine's energy sector since the full-scale invasion began has now surpassed £470 million.

This funding is specifically targeted at restoring the critical energy infrastructure that has been devastated by the ongoing conflict. The war has repeatedly targeted Ukraine's power grid, creating a dire humanitarian and economic situation, especially during winter months.

Objectives of the New Funding

The newly allocated funds will be directed towards the following key areas:

• Strengthening the protection of energy systems;
• Providing backup power supplies.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that 'the partnership with Ukraine must stand as a symbol of steadfast support and shared security.'
