This deployment comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Arctic and follows public statements by former US President Donald Trump regarding the island's control. The initiative is part of a broader allied effort, with France and Germany also sending personnel to participate in Danish-led exercises in the region.

Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen confirmed this multinational operation. A German reconnaissance team of 13 personnel was deployed to the capital, Nuuk, from January 15 to 17. France and Germany have also sent forces to Greenland for these exercises. These actions follow Denmark's earlier announcement on January 14 of plans to deploy additional troops to its autonomous territory.
