UK imposes sanctions on Russian LNG tankers and related organizations.
The United Kingdom is imposing sanctions on five vessels and two organizations linked to the Russian LNG sector.
This is the first time the UK is using its new powers to ban ships transporting LNG from entering its ports. This is done to prevent Russia from increasing its profits from LNG exports, which are used to finance the war in Ukraine.
LNG is an important source of funding for Russia's illegal war in Ukraine. Russia plans to increase its share of the global LNG market from 8% to 20%.
Previously, the UK, along with the United States and the European Union, imposed sanctions on the Arctic LNG 2 project, significantly reducing LNG production. Today's actions target vessels and organizations that interact with the Russian LNG sector and are crucial for future energy production in Russia.
The UK has already imposed sanctions on 15 vessels and organizations operating in the Russian LNG sector and will continue to pressure this important source of funding for the war in Ukraine.
The sanctions apply to the following vessels: PIONEER, ASYA ENERGY, NOVA ENERGY, NORTH SKY, and SCF LA PEROUSE. Two organizations associated with these vessels were also sanctioned: OCEAN SPEEDSTAR SOLUTIONS OPC and WHITE FOX SHIP MANAGEMENT.
