New UK-Ukraine agreement on joint weapons manufacturing: implications for regional defense.
Defense sector collaboration between Ukraine and the UK
According to UATV: Shortly after taking office, the new British prime minister received a phone call from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The conversation centered on plans to deepen cooperation in arms production, technology sharing, and building a fresh security framework. Zelensky described this potential partnership as a major step toward stabilizing the region.
In a subsequent interview with Sky News, Zelensky outlined key items for an upcoming meeting with the prime minister. He noted that Ukraine possesses missiles while the UK has Storm Shadow drones, suggesting opportunities for joint development of cutting-edge defense technology. However, he also pointed out that Britain lacks an antiballistic missile defense system.
Zelensky warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin is preparing a new wave of mobilization, expected to begin in early October, which poses an additional threat to Ukraine and the broader region. He also criticized existing sanctions against Russia’s military-industrial complex as insufficient and called for urgent strengthening of those measures.
