UK Imposes Ban on Russian Gas: A Fresh Blow to Moscow's Shadow Fleet.
Britain's Latest Package of Measures Against Russia
According to Espreso.tv: The United Kingdom has unveiled a new set of sanctions targeting Russia's shadow fleet, which includes an embargo on vessels transporting sanctioned Russian liquefied natural gas. Prime Minister Keir Starmer also announced a £210 million deal to supply enriched uranium to Ukraine's state-owned nuclear energy producer, Energoatom. These actions are designed to intensify pressure on Moscow over its aggression, which threatens not only Ukraine but also the security of all Europe.
Tanker Interception and Strengthened Cooperation
On June 14, Keir Starmer ordered the interception of a Russian shadow fleet tanker, marking a key part of Britain's latest moves. He stated that the successful operation dealt another blow to Russia.
“Russia's aggression threatens not only Ukraine but also the security of all Europe,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
British forces intercepted the tanker Smyrtos as part of new sanctions aimed at curbing Russia's ability to conduct illegal maritime activities. The agreement with the company Urenco, finalized between Keir Starmer and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, also signals deepening energy cooperation between the UK and Ukraine.
This latest UK sanctions package underscores the growing international support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. The enhanced energy partnership between the two nations could prove pivotal for Ukraine's energy security, helping to reduce its reliance on Russian resources. These steps may also ripple through global energy markets, signaling Western nations' determination to keep up economic pressure on Russia.
