UK Set to Supply Ballistic Missiles to Ukraine with First Launches Within a Year.
Project Nightfall: A New Defense Initiative
According to UATV: The United Kingdom has launched Project Nightfall, a defense program aimed at developing its own ballistic missile for delivery to Ukraine. This marks the first such initiative in several decades, originally designed to produce a missile with a range exceeding 600 kilometers and a 300-kilogram warhead. However, revised specifications have scaled back the range to 500 kilometers and reduced the warhead to 200 kilograms. The target cost per missile is approximately $1 million.
Testing and Production Plans
The first test launches of the new missile are expected within the next 12 months. Designed for launch from various mobile platforms, the missile will offer enhanced adaptability and effectiveness in combat scenarios. It will also be engineered to withstand electronic warfare countermeasures, a critical requirement in modern conflicts.
Deliveries of these missiles to Ukraine could begin by late 2027, with production capacity planned at up to ten units per month. This program aims to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities and support its efforts against aggression.
Project Nightfall reflects the United Kingdom’s growing support for Ukraine amid the ongoing security challenges in the region, particularly in the context of prolonged military conflicts. The development of these new missiles is expected to not only improve the combat readiness of Ukrainian forces but also potentially shift the balance of power on the battlefield, providing Ukraine with new tools to defend its territory.
