According to UATV: On July 16, 2023, Russian forces launched a nighttime assault on Ukraine, firing 13 missiles—eight of which were ballistic. The attack claimed two lives in Kyiv and left five people injured, including a child. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the toll, stating:
“In Kyiv, as of now, we know of two people killed by the Russian missile strike tonight. Five are wounded, and among them is a child.”
Damage Across Other Regions
The assault also inflicted harm in other parts of the country:
- Four individuals were injured in the Kharkiv region.
- A park in the city of Sumy was hit, sparking concern among local residents.
- In Zaporizhzhia, apartment buildings were damaged, leading to significant material losses.
Power systems in the Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, and Donetsk regions were also affected, compounding difficulties for the population. Zelenskyy emphasized that
“every package matters, and everything we’ve agreed on with partners must arrive on time.”This latest overnight strike underscores the ongoing escalation of the conflict and its devastating impact on civilians. The attack highlights the continued military operations across Ukraine and their toll on ordinary people, raising concerns both domestically and internationally. As tensions rise, securing timely support from global allies remains critical to bolstering Ukraine’s defenses and alleviating the suffering in affected areas.
