Ukraine's Parliament Approves Enhanced Social Benefits for Military Personnel.
Legislative Reforms for Service Members
According to Novyny.live: On February 25, Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, passed draft law No. 13646 with 284 votes in favor. This legislation strengthens social protections for military personnel serving on the basic conscript model and their families. This move comes as Ukraine continues to defend its sovereignty against the ongoing Russian invasion, highlighting the state's effort to support its defenders.
The new law counts time served on basic or conscript duty toward an individual's pension insurance record. Furthermore, service members will have the right to return to their former jobs within three months of being discharged. They are also granted preferential rights to retain employment for two years in the event of workforce reductions.
Key Benefits and Guarantees
The draft law stipulates the following provisions:
- Compensation for unused annual or additional vacation time;
- Professional adaptation programs for veterans to aid their reintegration into civilian life;
- Subsidies for public transportation;
- Financial assistance equivalent to the average wage for discharged military personnel who register with employment services.
Families of fallen soldiers will receive the right to state assistance, a crucial step in supporting those who have lost loved ones due to military actions.
"The changes outlined in this draft law are vital for strengthening the social protection of military personnel and their families."
The adoption of this law could significantly improve the living conditions for service members and their families by providing greater financial stability and social guarantees. It may also help attract new candidates to military service, as enhanced social rights offer an additional incentive for young people to consider an army career. Continued state efforts to bolster social protections for the military remain important for reinforcing societal support for those on the front lines.
