A veteran of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told how he coped with the loss of his leg after being wounded in the war.

In March 2023, a veteran of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Paralympian Yevhen Korinets was wounded in the Bakhmut direction, resulting in the amputation of his leg. However, the veteran noted that he easily coped with this loss since he saw how his father actively spends his free Time without a leg – hunting, fishing, mushrooms. He was also grateful that his right leg remained intact since he has a car with an automatic transmission, which is convenient.
After the amputation, Korinets began to suffer from phantom pains. He also noted that an infection developed in his wounded elbow that could not be cured. But despite this, after some time, he was able to start walking and decided to engage in rehabilitation. His strong desire to quickly return to normal life became a powerful motivator for his speedy recovery and rehabilitation. He spent a lot of time in the rehabilitation center, exercising and always doing something.
It is also worth noting that a 25-year-old serviceman from Lviv, Captain of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuriy Zhukovets, recently received the title of Hero of Ukraine. The warrior commanded a part of the company in the Kursk region, which fell into an ambush, but managed to evacuate the personnel after receiving five gunshot wounds.
Zhukovets also defended a semi-surrounded position for 56 days together with his partner. They fought against Russian assault troops since, due to the density of shelling and long distances, comrades who were supposed to replace them did not reach them and were wounded. The personal efforts of both warriors helped them withstand this unequal battle.
