Car Bombing in Odesa Deemed a Terrorist Act
According to Novyny.live: The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has formally designated a car explosion in Odesa's Kyiv district as an act of terrorism. The blast occurred at approximately 07:49 near a residential building on Akademika Korolova Street, resulting in the injury and hospitalization of the vehicle's driver. This incident underscores the persistent security challenges facing Ukraine's major cities.
Criminal Case Opened
In response, the SBU has initiated criminal proceedings under Article 258 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which covers terrorist acts. Conviction under this article carries a potential prison sentence of 5 to 15 years. Should the investigation determine that the act led to loss of life, the penalties could be significantly harsher, ranging from 10-15 years to life imprisonment.
"The SBU has classified the car explosion in Odesa's Kyiv district as a terrorist act and has already opened the corresponding criminal proceedings," stated the SBU's press service.
The agency further noted that "the Security Service, together with the National Police, are conducting comprehensive measures to establish all the circumstances of the event and the persons involved in its commission."
The investigation is currently ongoing, with law enforcement agencies working to ensure public safety.
