Jay D. Vance expects significant changes from the new Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth

US Vice President Jay D. Vance stated that he expects major changes from the new Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth. According to Vance, he personally supported Hegseth during the Senate voting, as the senators' votes were evenly split. This information is reported by Voice of America.

This is already the second Time in US history that a vice president resorts to voting, which ends with a unique level of support for a candidate for the position of head of a government department. Vance, speaking about the voting results for Hegseth in an interview with CBS Face the Nation, explained that 'many will not like the changes,' but they are 'extremely necessary.'

Tasks for the new secretary

Vance noted that the main task of the new head of the Pentagon should be to resolve the existing problems within the Department of Defense. He also emphasized the importance of focusing on artificial intelligence and drone technology in the procurement sector. According to Vance, due to the rise of artificial intelligence and drone technology, it is necessary to review the funding for weapons procurement and military equipment.

Hegseth's priorities

After being confirmed in office, Hegseth addressed millions of civilian and military employees of the US Department of Defense. He highlighted three priority areas: restoring the 'warrior culture' in the military and rebuilding trust in the armed forces, increasing defense production, and accelerating defense procurement, as well as strengthening deterrence through the responsible conclusion of wars and protecting the Homeland.

Hegseth's focus on increasing defense production reflects trends in the US following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, when the country emphasized increasing its own weapons production.
