Six Months Needed to Resume Flights in Ukraine: Key Obstacles to Restarting Air Travel.
Rebuilding Civil Aviation in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: It will take at least half a year to restart civil aviation in Ukraine once the war ends, and the timeline hinges on stabilizing conditions across the country. Volodymyr Kreydenko, a lawmaker from the 'Servant of the People' party, shared this assessment. He explained that before any flights can resume, Ukraine must ensure complete safety in its airspace and undergo a certification process for runways and aviation personnel.
Kreydenko noted that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) prohibits passenger flights during active hostilities. This underscores the need for security guarantees before air travel can restart. He emphasized:
'Once peace arrives, we still need to obtain and certify our runways and personnel so they can regain their licenses and fully operate aviation services, welcoming people on board. Regarding aviation, we would gladly resume it if the enemy stopped killing our civilians and were no longer present on our territory. As a specialist, I can say that to launch air transport now, we need six months and complete safety in our skies.' - Volodymyr Kreydenko
Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers has already established a working group to plan the restoration of flights. Safety and certification remain the core prerequisites for reviving civil aviation in Ukraine, and these issues must be urgently addressed to create comfortable and secure conditions for passengers.
Key Aspects of the Recovery
Restoring civil aviation in Ukraine is a crucial step in rebuilding the country's infrastructure after the conflict. Airspace security and the certification of aviation facilities are essential to rebuilding passenger trust in air travel. The Cabinet of Ministers' working group could serve as the first step toward resuming regular flights, but its success will depend on the overall situation in the country and adherence to international safety standards.
