Ukraine has significant potential in the coal industry, but due to the occupation of territories, the sector has lost part of its capacity. Despite this, some enterprises have managed to maintain production thanks to modernization and the crucial need for energy resources.Ukrainian miners use modern mechanisms for the extraction of hard coal, with the main production regions being the Donetsk and Lviv-Volyn coal basins. Hard coal remains an important source of energy, especially for thermal power plants during the winter period, and is used in metallurgy. However, coal production has a negative impact on the environment due to harmful emissions and water pollution in mines. In this regard, the government is seeking alternatives for primary heating sources, such as brown coal.
