Oil Production - How Many More Years Will Black Gold Last.
Humanity began extracting oil over 100 years ago. With the development of technology, extraction has reached such large scales that nature cannot replenish the reserves in time.
How Much Oil Reserves Are Left in the World
Oil reserves are distributed unevenly across the planet and are most commonly found in certain regions. According to the publication Live Science, as of 2023, there were still almost 1.6 trillion barrels of extractable oil in the world. There are also undiscovered but potentially available reserves, the exact amount of which is unknown. Data from the U.S. Geological Survey indicates the possibility of approximately 565 billion barrels.
How Many More Years Can Oil Be Extracted
Experts have developed a formula by which they calculated how many more years humanity can obtain oil. At the current level of extraction, reserves of 'black gold' will last for about 50 more years. New data on oil reserves is constantly emerging, but extraction is equated to the discovery of new fields, which practically does not change the calculations.
Decreasing oil reserves are a serious problem for the global economy, as it affects energy prices and can lead to energy crises. Scientists and engineers continue to seek new ways to obtain energy to support the sustainable development of the planet.
