Expert forecasts the dollar exchange rate for 2026: when the currency will rise again.
According to ТСН: The decrease in the exchange rate at the beginning of the year is only a temporary phenomenon and does not mean a stable strengthening of the hryvnia.
Economist Oleksii Plotnikov shared his thoughts on this matter during the News.LIVE broadcast.
Forecasts for the hryvnia and dollar
The specialist noted that in 2026, the hryvnia will continue to depreciate, and the dollar exchange rate may rise to approximately 45.7 UAH per dollar on average for the year.
The National Bank will continue to prevent sharp fluctuations in the exchange rate through currency interventions, so the devaluation of the hryvnia will likely occur slowly. This trend can only be slowed down by the end of the war and the start of large-scale reconstruction.
Euro exchange rate and its impact on the currency market
The euro exchange rate in Ukraine depends on the ratio in the euro-dollar pair. In 2025, the euro rose by 13.5%, and by the end of the year, a historical maximum was recorded in Ukraine - 49.85 UAH per euro. If the pressure on the dollar remains, the European currency will remain expensive, at least until the end of the first quarter of 2026, after which the dynamics will change depending on the global political and economic situation.
In general, the expert believes that the favorable exchange rate for currency exchange is already behind us, and in 2026 Ukrainians should be prepared for a gradual increase in the prices of both the dollar and the euro.
Recall that economist Andrii Novak named the best currency for savings. The expert recommends keeping savings in commercial banks that are among the top ten largest banks in Ukraine. In addition, it is best to divide the amount into three equal "baskets": hryvnia, dollar, and euro or other "hard currencies".
Forecasts for the exchange rate in the coming years indicate the challenges that Ukrainians will face. It is important to understand that current economic conditions may affect your financial strategy. Considering experts' advice will be beneficial for those who plan their savings partially in foreign currency.
