ISW: Ukrainian Armed Forces advance in the Pokrovsk direction, but lose positions near Hulyaipole

According to ТСН: Russia does not stop in its attempts to seize new Ukrainian territories, maintaining pressure on several fronts simultaneously. Over the past day, the front has changed both in favor of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and in favor of the aggressor.

This information is provided by a fresh report from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

On one of the most intense directions in the Donbas — Pokrovsk — Ukrainian defenders have managed to improve their tactical position. Analysts refer to geolocation materials published on December 24.

Video recordings indicate that the Armed Forces of Ukraine successfully carried out a counterattack and advanced in the northwestern part of Pokrovsk, pushing the enemy back.

Is there Russian advancement in Hulyaipole?

The situation in the Zaporizhzhia direction remains complicated. According to ISW, the occupiers have achieved some success in the city of Hulyaipole.

Geolocation data as of December 24 shows that Russian troops have advanced in the southern part of the city. Furthermore, analysts note that the actual advance of the enemy in the southern and northeastern areas of Hulyaipole is deeper than previously thought.

No confirmed changes to the front line have been recorded in other sections of the front in the Zaporizhzhia region and in the Kherson direction, despite attempts to storm by Russia.

What is the situation in the north and east?

ISW analysts also analyzed the situation in other sections of the front where the enemy is attempting to advance, but without success:

  • Sumy and Kharkiv regions: The enemy continued attacks in the northern Sumy and Kharkiv regions, as well as towards Veliky Burluk, but the front line remained unchanged.

  • Kupiansk direction: Russians stormed the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Kupiansk and also near Petropavlivka, Pyshchany and Stepanivka, but no advancement has been recorded.

  • Lyman and Siversk directions: Occupiers were fighting on the Sloviansk-Lyman and Siversk fronts, but did not achieve success.

  • Donetsk region: In the direction of Kostiantynivka — Druzhkivka and in the area of Dobropillia, the enemy attempted to attack but there has been no confirmed progress.

Attempts by the Russians to advance in the Novopavlivsk and Oleksandrivsk directions have also been fruitless.

In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian occupiers continue to attack using small infantry assault groups, which are systematically neutralized by the Defense Forces. This indicates that the enemy has significant reserves of manpower.

These events indicate ongoing tension on the Ukrainian fronts, which requires constant attention and strategy from the Defense Forces. How the situation will develop further remains a matter of strategic planning and response to military actions by the opponent.
