Russian aggression has destroyed over 4000 cultural sites in Ukraine: data from 18 regions.
According to inkorr.com: As of September 25, Russian aggression has led to the destruction and damage of 1599 cultural heritage monuments and 2415 cultural infrastructure sites across Ukraine. Overall, destruction has been recorded in 18 regions and 326 territorial communities. This was reported by 'Glavcom' referring to the Ministry of Culture.
Among the 1599 damaged cultural heritage monuments, 149 have national significance status, 1300 - local significance, and 150 - newly identified sites.
Regions with the largest destruction
- Kharkiv - 341 monuments.
- Kherson - 293 monuments.
- Odesa - 182 monuments.
- Donetsk - 173 monuments.
- Kyiv region and the city of Kyiv - 154 monuments.
As a result of hostilities and shelling, 2415 cultural infrastructure sites were damaged, 491 of which were completely destroyed.
The greatest losses were suffered by club establishments - 1175 sites, libraries - 848 sites, art education institutions - 184 sites, museums and galleries - 133 sites, theaters, cinemas, and philharmonics - 50 sites.
The cultural infrastructure that suffered the greatest losses is in the Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Kyiv, Sumy, and Mykolaiv regions.
The Ministry of Culture emphasizes that due to the temporary occupation of almost the entire territory of Luhansk and significant parts of Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Kherson regions, it is impossible to accurately calculate the number of affected cultural institutions in these territories.
Recall that as of July 21, 2025, as a result of the full-scale Russian aggression, 1528 cultural heritage monuments and 2359 cultural infrastructure sites have been destroyed and damaged in Ukraine.
Thus, it can be noted that as a result of Russian aggression in Ukraine, cultural heritage monuments and cultural infrastructure sites have suffered significant damage. The most destruction has been recorded in the Kharkiv and Kherson regions. Assessing the scale of destruction in the occupied territories is practically impossible, which further complicates the situation regarding the losses of cultural heritage. This data indicates systematic attacks on cultural values, emphasizing the importance of protecting cultural heritage in times of conflict.
