Hard water damages hair: how to identify the problem and save your locks.
Hard water and its impact on hair
Hard water is not just about temperature or feel, but about the amount of minerals dissolved in it. If the tap water contains high levels of calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, lime, or sodium, it is considered hard. You won't notice much difference in taste, but and skin react quickly. Locks become dull, lifeless, brittle, and the root volume disappears even if you've just styled it.

Consequences of hard water
To understand how this effect works, recall what happens after swimming in the sea. When salt remains on the hair and it dries naturally, the strands become stiff, dry, and 'crunchy'. Hard water acts similarly, only more insidiously - minerals settle unnoticed after each wash. Over time, they accumulate in the hair and on the scalp, leading to new problems:
- the color fades or changes, especially after dyeing;
- the scalp becomes dry, flaky, and irritated;
- hair splits faster;
- stylings hold worse as strands lose elasticity.
Impact of hard water on hair
If the shampoo doesn't lather well, and the conditioner doesn't provide the desired softness, the reason may also lie in the water. Our hair suffers the most from poor-quality water - it quickly tangles, becomes dry to the touch, and is hard to comb.
Who is at risk
In reality, hard water harms everyone, but porous, curly, dyed, and chemically treated hair suffers the most. It absorbs minerals faster and deteriorates from the inside.
Earlier, we wrote about why stylists do not recommend with men's shampoo.
We also reported how can trigger acne.
Under the influence of hard water, hair becomes dry, brittle, loses color and natural shine. The minerals that settle on the hair can also lead to problems with the scalp. Using poor-quality shampoo or conditioner, hard water can worsen the condition of hair, making it dry and unruly.Read also
