Moldova Imposes Mandatory Vehicle Inspection Certificates for All Border Crossings.
New Entry Requirements for Moldova
According to Novyny.live: Drivers from the Odesa region and other parts of Ukraine are now being turned away at the Moldovan border due to a new regulation requiring a valid vehicle inspection certificate. All cars crossing the border must now present this document, which is issued following an inspection at a certified technical service station. This move aligns Moldova with broader European road safety standards.
These requirements are enforced at all border crossing points and apply to vehicles regardless of their year of manufacture. To ensure a smooth crossing, drivers must carry the following documents:
- A valid biometric or international passport,
- A driver's license,
- The vehicle's registration certificate,
- A 'Green Card' and a road tax vignette.
When traveling with a child, a passport or birth certificate for the child is required, along with a notarized consent form for travel from one of the parents.
Restrictions and Official Travel Advice
Travelers should also be aware that Moldova prohibits the import of several categories of goods, including:
- Weapons,
- Narcotics,
- Prescription medicines without a doctor's note,
- Meat,
- Dairy products,
- Honey and seedlings without proper documentation.
These restrictions are designed to protect public health and safety.
In related travel advice, Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends against travel to Hungary due to potential risks for Ukrainian citizens. Furthermore, in light of developments in Poland, President Karol Nawrocki has signed a new law defining the legal stay period for Ukrainian refugees in Poland from March 5, 2026, to March 4, 2027.
These changes are impacting the overall situation regarding travel and movement for Ukrainians abroad.
Consequently, drivers planning trips to Moldova must prepare for these new rules and ensure they have all necessary documents to avoid border delays. The new measures are likely to cause additional waiting times at checkpoints. It is also prudent to heed the foreign ministry's safety advisories concerning travel to other countries, given the current regional political climate.
