Fertilizer Transshipment at State-Owned Odesa Port to Be Auctioned Online for the First Time.
Online Auction for Mineral Fertilizer Transshipment
According to Novyny.live: A state-owned port in the Odesa region is launching its first-ever online auction for mineral fertilizer transshipment services. Scheduled for March 25, 2026, the bidding will follow an English auction model, meaning the price for services will increase as the auction progresses. Both Ukrainian and international cargo owners are welcome to participate, a move designed to attract a larger pool of bidders and boost competitiveness.
Strategic Role of the Chornomorsk Port
The transshipment services for mineral fertilizers will be provided at the Chornomorsk port, a strategically vital facility for Ukraine. Since the start of 2026, Ukrainian seaports have already handled over 15 million tons of cargo, underscoring the sector's robust activity.
In a related development, Ukraine is also launching a two-year pilot project aimed at developing its Danube ports, with the goal of streamlining logistics and improving transshipment efficiency.
Commenting on the situation, Oleksiy Kuleba stated: 'Facing stiff competition from private port operators, state-owned stevedoring companies need new models for cooperating with the market.'
The online auction for mineral fertilizer transshipment marks a significant step in modernizing Ukraine's port infrastructure, with the potential to reshape the transshipment market. By attracting foreign cargo owners and introducing fresh collaboration models with the market, the initiative aims to enhance port efficiency, which could in turn drive increased investment in the industry. The success of this auction may also serve as a blueprint for future maritime transport initiatives in Ukraine.
