For the first time in 10 years — what will happen to the wheat harvest in Ukraine.
The wheat harvest in Ukraine in 2025 will be the lowest in the last 10 years. Therefore, grain prices will rise.
This was reported in a material by Novyny.LIVE.
Why there will be little wheat and how prices will change
This year, as Ivan Tomych, head of the Union of Ukrainian Peasantry, explained, spring frosts significantly damaged crops, especially in the southern regions.
'Therefore, the yield of wheat among all crops will be the lowest,' Tomych explained.
The expert emphasized that these factors led to an increase in wheat prices. So, if at the beginning of July a ton cost less than 8 thousand hryvnias, the subsequent increase led to a price of 9 thousand hryvnias per ton.
'And no significant decrease is expected. Many fields were hit by hail or ice rain. The impact of the war, which complicates forecasts every year, should also not be overlooked.'
Ivan Tomych also added that overall this year's export potential of wheat will be reduced.
'It is too early to say by how much — we still need to wait for the harvest to finish. But a reduction of up to 15 million tons is likely possible,' said the head of the Union of Ukrainian Peasantry.
Who buys Ukrainian grain
Deputy head of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council Denys Marchuk explained in a comment to Novyny.LIVE that Ukraine exports most of its agricultural products to Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. However, India is another promising market for Ukrainian producers. According to Marchuk, developing cooperation with this country is very important, as it has a large consumer market.
Earlier, we already reported on the cost of exporting agricultural products from Ukraine to various European countries. Due to the full-scale war with Russia, farmers prefer to transport goods by road rather than by sea routes.
It should also be mentioned that due to illegal grain trading, the state budget loses billions of hryvnias annually. This concerns companies that export grain purchased for cash abroad using fictitious documents.
The wheat harvest in Ukraine this year will be the lowest in the last 10 years due to crop destruction from spring frosts. This has led to a rise in wheat prices, which will result in a reduction in exports and potential losses for the state budget. The country is seeking new sales markets and implementing measures to combat the illegal export of grain abroad.Read also
