Russian Military Losses During the Winter of 2025-2026

According to UATV: On March 1, 2026, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released a report detailing Russian military casualties and equipment losses for the preceding winter. According to the data, Russian personnel losses for the period reached approximately 92,850, with nearly 93,000 soldiers killed or wounded. These figures highlight the continued intensity of the conflict, now in its fourth year.

The report also documented severe losses in Russian military hardware. The destroyed equipment includes:

  • 322 tanks
  • 430 armored combat vehicles
  • 2,967 artillery systems
  • 110 multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS)
  • 55 air defense systems

In the air, Russian forces lost 5 fixed-wing aircraft and 1 helicopter.

Other significant losses were recorded, including 65,269 operational-tactical level unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and 360 cruise missiles. Naval losses included 1 ship/boat and 1 submarine. Additionally, 11,927 vehicles and fuel tankers were destroyed, along with 65 units of special equipment. A notable incident was the explosion of a Russian 'Varshavyanka' (Kilo-class) submarine, project 636.3, in December 2025.

The published data points to substantial Russian military losses, which could impact their capacity to sustain ongoing military operations.

The scale of these losses in both manpower and matériel suggests increasing pressure on Russian military command and a likely need to reorganize resources. In a protracted conflict, such statistics are crucial for analyzing the strategic situation on the front lines and for informing the planning of both sides. This underscores the importance of monitoring casualty reports to understand the evolving dynamics of the war in Ukraine.
