According to The Sun: Three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen found himself in an unpleasant conflict incident during a night out at a nightclub, as evidenced by social media videos.

The footage shows the 36-year-old athlete at the center of a quarrel as others tried to hold him back on Saturday night.

Van Gerwen himself recounted that the incident occurred at an unknown location during a night out with friends. He stated:

“After a pleasant night, we decided to grab a bite, but unfortunately, I ended up in a situation I would have liked to avoid. A man attacked me, not the other way around, after a verbal exchange. People are making this situation more dramatic than it actually is, which is upsetting.”

He also added:

“As you can see, people immediately intervened and resolved the situation. I even spoke with the man's nephew, and we sorted everything out before I left.”

Personal and Sporting Struggles

The last few months have not been easy for Van Gerwen, as he announced his divorce from his wife Daphne. However, he managed to return to his former shape, defeating Luke Littler with a score of 11-7 in the World Series final earlier this month.

Michael opted to skip the tournament in Switzerland, but plans to participate in three competitions in Leicester next week to try and secure a spot in the Players Championship final.

Currently, Van Gerwen is ranked 103rd in the Players Championship order of merit. To qualify for a major tournament in Minehead, he needs to finish the season in the top 64.
