Saudi Arabia is preparing a revolution in darts: what will change in the sport.
Prospects for the Development of Darts in Saudi Arabia
According to The Sun: Barry Hearn hinted that an important announcement about the future of darts is expected soon.
The PDC president mentioned in his Netflix series that Turkish businessman Turki Alalshik is interested in developing the sport.
AlamyAlalshik, 44, has already accomplished much in boxing and has invested in snooker. He is also reported to be negotiating for a possible stake in Matchroom Sport along with Barry and Eddie Hearn.
Barry Hearn noted that news about the future of darts will appear soon.
However, he expressed some concerns about Saudi Arabia's legislation regarding alcohol.
“If you cannot drink in a country where we must respect their traditions and laws, we do not drink. Or we do not go,”
Barry Hearn
Hearn also emphasized that Alalshik's involvement could significantly increase the popularity of sporting events.
This could be the occasion for a new darts tournament with interesting changes, such as modifying traditional dartboards.
An example of such an approach was the introduction of the 'golden' ball in snooker, which is worth 20 points after a player scores 147 points.
“If you do not want to go, do not go. But keep an eye on the news.”
Barry Hearn
Hearn admitted that he was initially concerned about the changes but noted that Alalshik takes the matter seriously and can captivate the audience.
“You can be sure that if we start something in Saudi Arabia, it will come with several interesting nuances,” he added.
Recently, Hearn emphasized the importance of the economic feasibility of all steps: “Of course, we want this to be genuine. And everything we do has to be aimed at making a profit.”
Thus, the potential development of darts in Saudi Arabia depends not only on Alalshik's initiatives but also on the willingness to adhere to local traditions and legislation. Stay with us to keep up with important news about further steps in this direction.
