Wayne Rooney's opinion on Arne Slot's experiments

According to The Sun: Wayne Rooney believes that Ruben Amorim would face serious criticism if he conducted experiments like Arne Slot did in a recent match.

The head coach of Liverpool, Slot, chose to have midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai play as a right back and defender Jeremie Frimpong play on the right wing.

Liverpool lost 0-1 to Galatasaray just three days after an unexpected defeat to Crystal Palace.

Although Slot enjoyed confidence after last year’s Champions League title, Rooney pointed out that his previous successes meant he faced less criticism for failed decisions.

“When you win the league, as Slot did with Liverpool last season, some decisions sometimes go unnoticed,” Rooney noted on The Wayne Rooney Show.

He added that similar experiments, if conducted by Amorim at Manchester United, would attract serious criticism.

Slot made changes, but Liverpool could not equalize after Victor Osimhen converted a penalty in the first half. Two consecutive poor games increase the pressure ahead of the match against Chelsea.

“I think they were really poor [against Galatasaray],” Rooney added.

“It worries me that it looked like Slot just put all the attacking players on the pitch and said: 'look after yourselves.'”

After two poor games, Liverpool is under pressure and preparing for an important match against Chelsea. Rooney highlights the importance of the coach's strategic decisions, as such experiments can have significant consequences for the team in upcoming matches. Whether Slot can change the game and get the team back on the winning path - time will tell.
