Wetherspoons opens 15 new pubs in the UK: where the venues will appear.
Wetherspoons new openings
According to The Sun: Wetherspoons is opening 15 new pubs across the country, meeting the demands of beer culture enthusiasts in London, Bristol, and Essex.
GettyOn September 30, two new venues will open in London. The first will be The Sir Alexander Fleming in Paddington Basin. The company spent £943,000 converting an old restaurant in Merchant Square into a new pub.
The venue, named after the doctor who 'discovered' penicillin, will operate from 8:00 AM to 11:30 PM from Sunday to Thursday and from 8:00 AM to midnight on Friday and Saturday. It will offer real ales, traditional ciders, craft beer, and local drinks. A spacious outdoor area is also planned to be created by next summer, positively impacting the local economy, with an expectation of creating 70 new jobs.
Second pub in London
The second venue, The Sun Wharf, will also open its doors on September 30. It is located at the site of the former The London Dungeon under the arches on Tooley Street. The pub will have two entrances on Tooley Street and walls adorned with historical photographs of the area.
On the same day, The King of Essex will open in Basildon, Essex. This is a result of a new deal with the family business The Papas Group, under which 15 new venues will be opened.
Future plans
One of the new pubs will open in Lincoln - it will be The Hykeham Manor, located on the site of the former Gateway Park Brewers Fayre, with an opening scheduled for October 1. Three more venues are planned for October and November in the towns of Annitsford, Stockton-on-Tees, and Emersons Green. The exact addresses of these venues are not yet disclosed; however, The Sun will update this information as soon as it receives more details.
Michael Barron, commercial director of Wetherspoon, expressed his satisfaction with the deal, stating:
“We are pleased to have signed agreements with The Papas Group. We are exploring additional opportunities and are confident that we will sign even more franchise agreements.”
The director of The Papas Group, Andrew Papas, added:
“We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Wetherspoons, which will allow us to establish 15 new pubs in the UK. These are not just ordinary pubs — they are beloved community spaces, carefully located not on traditional streets, but in the very heart of people's lives.”
Wetherspoons has several franchise agreements with groups such as Haven Holiday Parks, as well as with the University of Nottingham and the University of Hull. These agreements are common in the hotel industry, allowing independent operators to run an already established business while utilizing their brand and products.
Among new openings is a new Spoons in the prestigious Fulham area, located in an old West London underground station. Pub enthusiasts can also expect three new openings this year, including one in Warwickshire, which opened on July 29.
