Criticism of the Hall of Fame Selection System

According to The Sun: The Premier League Hall of Fame is currently under criticism. This year, only two out of 15 nominated footballers will have the chance to join the already established group of 22 legends.

It’s sad that Ryan Giggs has yet to receive a chance to be part of the Hall of FameNews Group Newspapers Ltd

My main issue is that the selection is done through public voting, which causes some confusion. The Hall of Fame should operate like the NFL, where there is a committee of 50 members, including media representatives and experts.

Why not do the same? We could invite former legendary managers and players like Sir Alex Ferguson, Alan Shearer, and Thierry Henry to express their opinions.

It’s important not to simply choose friends, but to evaluate based on established criteria, asking yourself: 'Have they done enough to be among us?'

This should be a brotherhood of legends making these decisions, an elite group of players who know how to win and understand how difficult it is to get into this Hall of Fame.

Inconsistency in Nominations

Today, it seems that anyone can be nominated, as voters simply pick their favorites or those who have played for clubs they support.

This often leads to players from Manchester United receiving preferential treatment due to their massive global fan base.

Similarly, the situation looks the same with Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City. The same clubs are constantly nominated, calling into question the fairness of the selection.

Some nominations and absent candidates raise eyebrows. I support the inclusion of Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, David Beckham, and Wayne Rooney, but Ryan Giggs still hasn't had a chance - likely due to controversies off the pitch.

Two years ago, he was accused of assaulting his ex-wife and her sister, but the charges were eventually dropped.

'And Eric Cantona, who played just 156 matches in the Premier League, received a nomination? That’s ridiculous. He tarnished his reputation in England by hitting a fan during a match.'

Ryan Giggs' Career Statistics

Manchester United, 1990-2014: 963 matches, 168 goals

Wales, 1991-2007: 64 matches, 12 goals

Trophies

Manchester United: Premier League x13, FA Cup x4, League Cup x4, Community Shield x9, Champions League x2, Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup, Club World Cup.

John Terry also had his issues but received a nomination despite a four-match ban and a £220,000 fine for racist abuse.

Giggs played 632 matches for Manchester United, scoring 109 goals and providing 162 assists, becoming one of the most decorated players in Premier League history.

People like Teddy Sheringham are only remembered for the 1999 victory, while Les Ferdinand has minimal chances of recognition.

Sergio Aguero shone at Manchester City, but why should he receive a chance ahead of those who have won more trophies?

Among the non-nominated are Jermain Defoe, who might not make it to the Hall for a few more years due to his career at clubs like Tottenham and Jersey.

Why are legends like David Ginola not being honored earlier - a true Premier League icon for Tottenham, Everton, and Newcastle? Footballers who made this league what it is today deserve recognition.
