The couple revealed the secret of the '3-hour rule' for perfect relationships.
The wife reveals her secret 'three-hour' rule that helps her maintain her marriage, and other couples can't get enough of it.
According to The Sun: Rachel Higgins posted a video on TikTok where she shared a simple way that she and her husband reconnect after a tough day.
Higgins and her husband started following the three-hour night rule in 2024, and the mother said it was a 'revelation' in their relationship.
What does the three-hour night include? Higgins explains that they split the three hours into three different parts, allowing them to get chores done and connect.
Higgins and her husband used to spend evenings taking care of their little daughter, lounging on the couch, and scrolling through their phones, before going to bed.
However, after prioritizing their relationship, their evenings started to look a bit different.
'What we do after my daughter goes to bed...we allocate an hour for productive time,' Higgins explained.
'Any productive household task.'
During the productive hour, they tackle household chores they didn't get to during the day, such as cleaning the kitchen or doing laundry.
'The second hour is dedicated to our marriage.'
'During this time, we put away our phones and commit to each other and our marriage.'
Higgins said that this hour can look a bit different each night.
Sometimes it might mean taking a shower together, and other times it can simply be playing a game together.
The goal of this hour is to dissolve, discuss, and connect.
'The last hour is me-time,' she said.
In this final hour, both can do whatever they want without judgment.
'The main goal is to inspire you to be intentional with your time if you feel stuck doing the same thing every night like we did,' Higgins wrote in the comments.
'There are no hard rules.'
Higgins said they don't always achieve their three-hour night goal each night, but they try to do it three to four times a week.
The mother noted that even one night a week can be enough.
The three-hour night has garnered attention from over 300,000 TikTok users, with many rushing to the comments to support the idea or ask how she makes it work.
'Great idea,' commented one woman.
'Good for us empty nesters! Phone scrolling is out!'
The secret of the three hours is a simple way for couples to dedicate time to each other and improve their relationships. By breaking their evening into three parts, they've managed to find time for chores, developing their marriage, and pursuing their interests, allowing each family member to feel valued.
