False witness leaves Germany over threat of revenge

According to The Sun: The witness claiming that Christian Brueckner almost confessed to abducting Madeleine McCann plans to leave Germany due to fear of revenge.

Helge Buesching, 54, became the catalyst for the German investigation in 2017 when he stated that Brueckner told him that the child 'was not heard'.

He added:

“I am afraid. Christian knows that I am the only one who can tie him to the Madeleine McCann case. He will want to remove me from the way. Brueckner knows what he said to me.”

The former petty criminal recalls: “We were at a festival in Spain in 2008, a year after Madeleine disappeared. I didn’t want to talk to him, but he asked: 'Why are you no longer in Portugal?'.

“I replied that it was not the place I wanted to be, as there was too much police presence after Madeleine McCann's disappearance. Then I asked: 'How could someone take her from the apartment?'.

“Christian looked at me and said: 'She didn't scream'. We both knew what he meant.”

“I had already seen what he was capable of and knew he was telling me he took her.”

According to Helge, Brueckner hurriedly left the festival. “It was clear he left in a panic because he almost drove into someone’s tent with his van.”

He admitted that his past did not allow him to report this to the police, but after a few weeks, he still approached Scotland Yard when he saw Brueckner.

Helge again called the police in 2017 during the tenth anniversary of the disappearance.

He stated:

“It is one of my greatest regrets in life that I didn’t call the police earlier.”

“But when I saw the anniversary, I thought: 'I can’t let him remain free. This cannot continue for the parents.’”

“I believe he took Madeleine McCann - I believe he killed her.”

Helge, who works at a waste recycling company, added:

“He will commit a crime again. I know him. I hate this man. It’s only a matter of time before he catches another child or attacks an elderly woman.”

Helge, whose testimony helped convict Brueckner for rape in 2005 in Praia da Luz, noted:

“I fear he will want revenge. He knows that I put him behind bars and reported him for Madeleine.”

Helge lost faith in the German legal system and believes that leaving the country is a safer decision, even if it means stepping out of the witness protection program.

He concluded:

“I am hiding. I will never stay in one place too long so he can’t find me.”
