Words of Steven Gerrard about Paul Scholes

According to The Sun: Steven Gerrard expressed his thoughts that one of the legendary players of 'Manchester United' could have been the best midfielder in the Premier League if he played in the modern era.

Speaking on the podcast Rio Ferdinand Presents, Gerrard noted that his former England teammate Paul Scholes would be at a significantly higher level than other midfielders in the league.

At the beginning of the conversation, Gerrard discussed what it is like to play in modern football, admitting that he finds it hard to believe. He also emphasized that Paul Scholes is the best midfielder in the modern game.

“I believe that [Paul Scholes] would be the best midfielder in the Premier League right now.”
“Scholesy for me was a true controller of the game. He could change the direction of an attack. If you got close, he could beat you.”

Gerrard and Scholes played together for the England national team 25 times from 2000 to 2004. Their time on the field was limited due to the wealth of potential midfielders in that team, which also included stars like Frank Lampard and Michael Carrick.

However, Gerrard is confident that Scholes would be at a significantly higher level than the current players in the league.

“He would scare everyone in the Premier League.”
“I’m telling you right now, he would terrorize everyone in the Premier League.”

“He would be the best midfielder in the Premier League, without a doubt.”
