WSJ: USA to provide weapons for F-16s that Ukraine will receive.
The United States of America has agreed to provide weapons for the F-16 fighters that Ukraine will receive from European partners, reports The Wall Street Journal.
According to the publication, the USA plans to equip the F-16s with AGM-88 HARM missiles, JDAM munitions, small-diameter precision-guided GLSDB munitions, AMRAAM missiles, and AIM-9X missiles.
A Pentagon representative noted that despite limited stocks and manufacturing capabilities, Ukraine will receive a sufficient amount of weaponry to meet the most urgent needs.
Fighter coalition participants decided not to use their own limited stocks of munitions for the F-16s, so a decision was made to supply them from the USA.
Earlier, leaders of the USA, Denmark, and the Netherlands confirmed that Ukraine will receive its first F-16 aircraft during the summer. It is expected that up to 20 aircraft will arrive by the end of the year.
The Wall Street Journal also reports that the USA is considering expanding the program to train Ukrainian pilots on its territory and involving European contractors to service the F-16s in Ukraine.
Let us recall, WP analyzed if the F-16s can dramatically change the situation on the front.
