Liam Harris and York team's prospects

According to The Sun: Liam Harris is ready to take financial measures to solve a 'small hassle' and bring York back to the Super League.

Next year, the team will be operating at full capacity, regardless of whether they remain in the top division or play in the lower league.

Liam Harris believes York is ready to rise to the Super League, even if it means cutting wages for some players SWPIX.COM

The promotion issue will undoubtedly be decided off the field, but the captain is 100% confident in his teammates – even if it means financial losses.

Harris, who works as a mortgage consultant, previously played in the Super League for Hull FC in 2018. He noted:

“I have a small hassle on my shoulders that tells me I can do this.”

“This is what I have been waiting for. Now I am in much better shape than I was at 21. Back then, I was definitely not ready to play in the Super League.”

“We have players with families who have very good jobs – if they were to get a salary from York, they might have to cut it if that happens.”

York and their competitors from Toulouse are battling not only on the field but off it as well, awaiting the results of the IMG ranking system and the decision of the independent commission on the possible expansion of the Super League to 14 clubs on October 16.

Winning today's Grand Final Championship will bring an additional 0.25 points to the IMG winner's rating. Toulouse, which finished last year in 13th place, lost by only 0.39 points to Salford club, whose overall rating for 2025 is likely to drop.

Coach Mark Applegarth's words

Head coach Mark Applegarth is confident in his club's readiness for new challenges in North Yorkshire and hopes that Toulouse will rise as well.

The former Wakefield coach noted:

“I don't want to be disrespectful to the environment I had in Wakefield, but York is at a much higher level.”

“York is a completely different environment. It's a big city, especially as a tourist destination.”

“We have a training base that is tailored for high-level sports, and the stadium is already ready to go.”
York head coach Mark Applegarth would like to see both his club and Toulouse rise SWPIX.COM

“Everything was the opposite in Wakefield. I believe we would be a great addition to the Super League. The more we can create great, iconic cities alongside traditional clubs, the better for me.”

“York absolutely deserves a place in the Super League as a rugby city – both clubs deserve it, in my opinion.”

“To be honest, I would like to see both York and Toulouse in the Super League.”

Thus, the York team and their coach are striving for success in upcoming competitions, hoping for increased competition in the Super League. It is important to note that the results of their efforts could significantly influence the further development of the club and rugby in the region, as the growing popularity and success of the team can attract new fans and sponsors. This season promises to be exciting, and fans are looking forward to positive changes.
