Former Chelsea Player to Step into the Ring Against Ex-Tottenham Star: Fight Details.
Jodie Morris Prepares for Boxing Match Against David Bentley
According to The Sun: Jodie Morris feels the pressure from Chelsea fans ahead of his charity boxing match against David Bentley, which will take place next Saturday at the Grosvenor Hotel in Mayfair.
PA:Empics SportTen former Premier League players will be taking part in the fight, but this clash for London bragging rights is generating the most interest.
Morris, 46, said: “My friends are messaging me: ‘You can't lose to Tottenham! But I'm hoping for a Chelsea win tonight, that’s for sure.”
Morris started his career at Chelsea, debuting in 1996, and spent seven years at the club, playing alongside legends like John Terry and Frank Lampard, who will support him in this match.
“I’ve spoken to JT about it a lot, not so often with Lamps, he's busy working wonders at Coventry,” Morris added.
“I’m sure I’ll get a lot of supportive messages, but I’m focusing on improving my fitness and boxing skills so I don’t look silly.”
“No one wants to lose, because that means you get hit, so I’m aiming to avoid that!”
Other Fights on the Card
Other fights scheduled on the undercard include: Curtis Davis vs. Paddy Kenny, Leroy Lita vs. David Noble, Lee Trundle vs. Anthony Gardner, and Greg Goldford vs. Marvin Elliott.
Former Arsenal goalkeeper Graham Stack is organizing the event to support four charities, aiming to raise £500,000.
All proceeds will go to Playskill, Sport In Mind, Willow Foundation, and Helping Hands.
“I hope to settle my London derby with Bentley in the ring – then we’ll grab a beer,” Morris said.
“I’ve had the pleasure of playing with Stack and Marvin Elliott. I know Leroy Lita a bit, even Leon McKenzie, who's one of the coaches, and Darren Barker.”
“There’s a real family and friends atmosphere, but I think once we step into the ring, that feeling will fade a bit.”
“But, as I said, I hope we can all enjoy a drink after the fight and celebrate that no one got hurt.”
