Ukrainians support the ban on Russian religious organizations
According to sociological research, 80% of Ukrainians support the draft law on banning the activities of religious organizations associated with Russia, which was approved by the Verkhovna Rada in September 2024. 16% of respondents are against the ban, and 4% have not determined their position.
The research also showed that 70% of Ukrainians consider themselves Orthodox. The largest part of them (56%) identify with the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, 7% with the Orthodox Church without specification, and 6% with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.
President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the draft law on banning the activities of Russian religious organizations in September 2024. Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada also passed a draft law on banning the Moscow Church in Ukraine.
Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev stated about the connections of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate with Russia and reacted to the ban on the activities of Russian religious organizations in Ukraine.
