Expired Ukrainian Passports with Extended Validity to Become Invalid: Urgent Replacement Required.
End of Temporary Authorization for Extended Passports
According to Novyny.live: The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has revoked the temporary permission that allowed citizens to use foreign passports with extended validity. This policy, which had been in effect from late February 2022 until October 28, 2025, will no longer apply. Starting in 2026, such passports will no longer be considered valid, and anyone seeking to travel abroad legally must obtain a new one.
Who Needs to Apply for a New Passport?
Under the new ruling, Ukrainians must check whether their travel documents fall into categories requiring replacement. Those affected include:
- passports that have already expired;
- passports that were extended due to the war;
- passports containing data about children or other family members under the old regulations.
To apply for a new passport, citizens can visit a local branch of the Migration Service or a Center for Administrative Services (CNAP). Alternatively, applications may be submitted at the nearest Ukrainian embassy, consulate, or a branch of the state enterprise 'Dokument'. The fee for processing a passport at a CNAP is 1,147 hryvnias for standard service (up to 20 business days) and 1,787 hryvnias for expedited service (up to 7 business days).
Given this change, it is strongly advised that citizens arrange for document replacement as soon as possible to avoid any complications when traveling abroad after 2025.
Ending the temporary authorization for extended passports is a key measure to ensure that all travel documents meet current standards. This decision reflects the Ukrainian government's commitment to maintaining the security and legitimacy of documents used for international travel.
