ZNPP lost connection to the backup power line again

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, occupied by Russian troops, lost connection to its only backup power line. This happened for the second Time this month and lasted more than a day. According to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, this has a negative impact on the plant's nuclear safety, as it becomes dependent on the sole source of external electricity needed for safe reactor operation. The line was disconnected due to damage on the opposite bank of the Dnieper River.

Before the conflict with Russia began, the Zaporizhzhia NPP had 4 power transmission lines with a voltage of 750 kV and 6 lines with a voltage of 330 kV. However, as a result of the war, the plant has been constantly suffering from power outages. The presence of IAEA representatives at the plant confirms that despite the explosions, the plant's safety is maintained. Additionally, the IAEA team is assessing the condition of the power grid infrastructure at 6 electrical substations in Ukraine.
