Deadly Russian Strike Hits Zaporizhzhia: 3 Killed, 37 Wounded, Residential Buildings Destroyed.
Massive Attack on Zaporizhzhia
According to UATV: On July 3, 2023, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Zaporizhzhia using drones and guided aerial bombs. The assault left three people dead and 37 others injured. Multiple apartment buildings, commercial spaces, and vehicles sustained damage. This attack is part of an ongoing pattern of strikes targeting civilian infrastructure in Ukrainian cities.
The bombardment began near midnight, with Russian troops dropping three aerial bombs on a residential district of Zaporizhzhia. One of the bombs landed just five meters from a two-story building, causing extensive destruction. The explosion on the first floor of the entrance tore through load-bearing panels, putting residents at serious risk. Local witnesses reported that the entryway was 'shattered to pieces,' and debris piled up in several ground-floor apartments. Oleksandr Shevchenko stated that the entrance will likely be declared uninhabitable, and plans are underway to relocate the residents.
Aftermath and Community Reaction
On July 4, a film crew from the FREEДОМ television channel visited the site to document the aftermath. Svitlana, a resident of one of the damaged buildings, shared her fears:
“I have a little dog; I thought it was killed, I couldn’t find it.” - Svitlana, resident of the affected building
Her words capture the terror and anxiety experienced by those caught in this horrific incident.
The situation in Zaporizhzhia has sparked concern among residents and humanitarian organizations, which are working to provide aid to the victims. This tragedy once again underscores the severity of the conflict and its devastating impact on civilians.
This strike on Zaporizhzhia serves as yet another reminder of the escalating war in Ukraine, which continues to claim the lives of innocent people and inflict significant damage on infrastructure. Humanitarian groups have already begun delivering assistance to those affected, though the situation remains critical.
Experts continue to stress the need for international action to ensure the safety of civilians in conflict zones.
