School principals earn 35,000 UAH: how the salaries of education leaders have increased.
School principals and vice-principals earn higher average salaries than regular teachers, as they are entrusted with more duties and responsibilities. They must manage the team, organize the educational process, control the quality of teaching, select qualified staff, and more.
The News.LIVE website reports how much school principals and vice-principals earn on average in August 2025.
What salaries do principals and vice-principals have
Obviously, they can expect higher incomes than teachers, whose salaries consist not only of the base salary but also of service bonuses, various allowances, premiums, and so on. Directors and their deputies must possess professional knowledge/skills to effectively perform their duties at high positions.
Since there are more expectations and requirements for the management of educational institutions, the pay is accordingly higher. According to data from the large recruitment portal Work.ua, school principals and vice-principals earn an average of 35,000 UAH as of August 2025. This figure is derived from income information in published job vacancies.
For comparison, in May of this year, the average earnings were at 33,500 UAH, and in June, they increased by 1,500 UAH. In the same period of 2024, a school principal and vice-principal could expect an income of 25,000 UAH/month, meaning their average salary was 10,000 UAH lower. Meanwhile, the number of job vacancies has increased by 40% over the year.
Should teachers expect a salary increase
Earlier, we reported that the Verkhovna Rada provided a clear answer to the question of what to expect for teaching staff in the near future. According to the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada's committee on education, science, and innovations, Serhiy Babak, no legislative salary increases for teachers are expected in 2025.
“The reason is banal but objective: the state budget cannot bear such a burden, especially during a full-scale war. However, I am convinced that there is no alternative,” the parliamentarian explained, referring to the norm of establishing the minimum salary for teachers at 24,000 UAH.
What else Ukrainians should know
It should be noted that educators can receive retirement pensions either by age or by length of service, but the conditions differ. In 2025, to retire at 60 years old, one must have at least 32 years of service, and under additional circumstances, one can receive a one-time payment equal to 10 pensions.
We also wrote about what teachers are most often awarded bonuses for. Additional financial incentives are awarded to teachers for quality conscientious work, contributing to the development of students' abilities, winning and participating in professional competitions, participating in the development of textbooks, and more.
In conclusion: The article discusses the salaries of school principals and their deputies compared to regular teachers. In 2025, their average salaries reach 35,000 UAH, which is higher than in previous years. According to the head of the education committee of the Verkhovna Rada, no increase in income for educational staff is expected at the legislative level in 2025.Read also
