Russian wrestlers showed the worst result in 22 years: reasons for failure

According to inkorr.com: The Russian national freestyle wrestling team has suffered its worst result at the World Championships in the last 22 years. As reported by 'Glavkom', during the World Championships in 2025 held in Zagreb, Russian wrestlers won only three medals: Zaour Uguyev became the champion in the 61 kg weight category, Amanula Gadzhimagomedov received silver in the 92 kg category, and Zaurbek Sidakov won the bronze medal in the 74 kg weight category.

Last time Russia received such a number of awards at the World Championship was back in 2003 when all the medals were gold.

Visa problems for Sadulaev

Two-time Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling Abdulrashid Sadulaev could not participate in the World Championship in Zagreb due to a visa refusal.

«Abdulrashid Sadulaev does not leave for the World Championship (due to a visa refusal),» said Mikhail Mamiashvili, head of the Wrestling Federation of Russia.

The World Wrestling Championship is ongoing in Zagreb from September 13 to 21. In April 2025, Sadulaev also could not participate in the European Championship in Slovakia due to visa issues. In 2024, he received a 59-month ban on entry to the Schengen area.

Sadulaev participated in propaganda events and rallies in support of certain political views in Moscow. He tried to qualify for the 2024 Olympics but was rejected for unclear reasons that raised doubts about his participation.

Thus, the Russian freestyle wrestling team has faced serious setbacks, winning only three medals. The refusal of a visa for Sadulaev once again jeopardized his participation in international sports competitions.

These events indicate that Russian athletes are facing serious challenges on the international stage, which can negatively affect their careers and future performances. It is important to observe how this situation develops, as it may impact Russia's relations with international sports organizations.
