Ukraine's wrestling team at the World Championship
According to inkorr.com: Ukrainian wrestlers are returning from the world championship without medals for the second consecutive time. This year, the competition took place in Zagreb, Croatia.
At the tournament, our athletes in freestyle wrestling were unable to win any medals. The best results were achieved by Kamila Kerimova (up to 57 kg), Andriy Biliychuk (up to 65 kg), and Vasyl Mykhailov (up to 79 kg), who reached the quarter-finals.
In the overall team standings, Ukraine ranked 11th (results of Russians and Belarusians were not taken into account).
The last time Ukrainian wrestlers received an award at the world championship was in 2023, when Vasyl Mykhailov won bronze.
Regarding the women's team, Alla Belinska won gold in the final of the weight category up to 72 kg, defeating an athlete from Turkey. This triumph became the second medal for Ukraine at the world championship. It is important to note that Belinska became the first Ukrainian world champion in the last seven years.
Iryna Kolyadenko (up to 65 kg) and Anastasia Alpeyeva (up to 76 kg) were close to winning medals but lost in the bronze medal matches.
Although Ukrainian wrestlers did not win medals at the world championship in freestyle wrestling in Zagreb, the achievements of Alla Belinska, who became the world champion, are undoubtedly an important milestone for Ukrainian sports. Overall, the Ukrainian team did not manage to show impressive results at this tournament.
In 2023, Ukrainian wrestlers demonstrated some successes on the world stage, but the recent championship confirmed that there is a need to continue working and seek new approaches to reach a higher level. Alla Belinska's victory has given hope for the revival of Ukraine's sports achievements in the future.Read also
