New Alliances in the Middle East: How Zelenskyy’s Deals Could Reshape Regional Geopolitics.
Ukrainian President’s Diplomatic Tour in the Middle East
According to UATV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently completed a visit to several nations in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf, securing fresh agreements that analysts say could dramatically alter the region’s geopolitical landscape. These developments come as Washington, once seen as a guarantor of stability, is now viewed by some as a source of disorder, having lost its traditional role as a security provider. The growing partnership between Ukraine and Middle Eastern states is unfolding against this backdrop of shifting global influence.
New Opportunities for Ukraine
Amid these regional shifts, experts argue that neither China nor Russia can reliably ensure the safety of Middle Eastern countries. International relations specialist Oleh Saakian noted that
“Ukraine is now in a forward position”(Oleh Saakian), highlighting Kyiv’s heightened activity on the world stage. He further stated that
“The United States has destroyed the inertia of the post-World War II era”(Oleh Saakian), pointing to a fundamental change in America’s global role.
Ukraine is expected to deepen its cooperation with European partners, particularly France and Germany. Saakian emphasized that
“The world is no longer bipolar. This creates room for middle powers”(Oleh Saakian), suggesting new openings for nations outside traditional political blocs. At the same time, he observed that “the war will continue for now, though at some point it will end,” acknowledging the prolonged nature of the conflict Ukraine faces.
As a result, Zelenskyy’s Middle East tour may represent a pivotal move in forging fresh geopolitical ties and strengthening Ukraine’s regional standing, especially given the evolving global order and shifting interstate relationships.
The Ukrainian president’s journey across the Middle East signals a more assertive foreign policy in response to emerging global challenges. With U.S. influence in the region waning, Ukraine has an opportunity to bolster its position by engaging countries that are not traditionally aligned with Western alliances. This could lead to a rebalancing of international relations and the formation of new economic and political partnerships.
