Number One Priority for Ukraine: Patriot Systems and Their Missiles, Says Zelenskyy.
Ukraine's Military Priorities
According to UATV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has identified the supply of missiles for Patriot air defense systems as the nation's top military priority, stressing that Ukraine currently lacks its own indigenous anti-missile systems. Speaking to journalists on July 9, 2023, he emphasized that securing a production license for the Patriot system is the country's foremost objective. This announcement comes amid ongoing efforts to bolster Ukraine's defenses against aerial threats.
Plans for PAC-3 and PAC-2 Missiles
Zelenskyy also outlined Ukraine's intention to acquire PAC-3 and PAC-2 missiles through the PURL program. He noted that while Ukraine manufactures a wide array of weaponry, it still does not possess its own domestic anti-missile system.
“Not all countries are technologically ready for this,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
It is worth noting that the United States has recognized Ukraine as a nation with the necessary technological foundation to produce missiles for Patriot systems. This recognition opens up new avenues for strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities amid current challenges.
Obtaining a license to manufacture missiles for Patriot systems represents a critical step for Ukraine in enhancing its defensive capabilities, especially during an ongoing armed conflict. Increasing the number of modern anti-missile systems could significantly improve the country's ability to protect against external threats and ensure greater safety for its civilian population.
