Following Drone Strike in Galați, Ukrainian President Reaches Out to Romania’s Leader.
High-Level Call Between Kyiv and Bucharest
According to Novyny.live: After a Russian drone struck a residential building in the city of Galați overnight, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke by phone with Romanian President Nicușor Dan. During the conversation, Zelenskyy voiced solidarity with the Romanian people and addressed security concerns, emphasizing the need for joint efforts in the face of threats from Russia. This attack marks the most significant incident of its kind on Romanian soil since the war began.
In response to the event, Nicușor Dan convened a session of Romania’s Supreme Council of National Defense on May 29. Speaking to Dan, Zelenskyy stated:
“On behalf of all Ukrainians, I expressed support for Romania and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the overnight Russian drone strike on a residential building in Galați.”
The Ukrainian leader also reaffirmed his country’s commitment to helping safeguard Romania, which has been assisting in defending against Russian attacks for five years. He added:
“We will remain in constant contact with Romania and continue working together to protect lives from all potential Russian threats.”
Security Cooperation Takes Center Stage
This call between the two presidents underscores the critical role of regional security amid ongoing Russian aggression. The Galați incident highlights the escalating conflict and the growing danger to neighboring countries, making cooperation between Ukraine and Romania more urgent than ever.
Mutual support and discussions on security measures could serve as key steps in preventing similar incidents in the future.
