Zelensky Warns of New Massive Russian Attack: Over 70 Missiles and 650 Drones Launched in a Single Night.
Ukraine's President Alerts to Escalating Russian Strikes
According to Novyny.live: In a stark address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky detailed the devastating impact of a large-scale Russian assault that began on the night of June 1-2. He reported that more than 70 missiles and 650 drones were fired at targets across Ukraine, resulting in significant civilian casualties: 130 people were injured, and 22 lost their lives, including two children. The attack deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure, residential buildings, and social facilities. This latest wave of violence underscores the relentless nature of the conflict and the urgent need for enhanced defensive measures.
Zelensky made a direct appeal to international partners, urging them to ramp up both weapons supplies and intelligence-sharing. He emphasized the severity of the onslaught, stating,
“It was a brutal strike—over 70 missiles, many of them ballistic, and more than 650 drones in a single night.”He added a sobering note on Ukraine's current defense capabilities:
“Unfortunately, the level of supplies for our air defense does not currently allow us to intercept a significant portion of these missiles.”
The president also warned of the potential for further attacks, revealing that intelligence indicates another massive strike could occur as soon as the following night. He urged citizens to heed air raid alerts, saying,
“We know from intelligence that a massive attack may happen again tonight. Please, I implore you, pay attention to the warnings.”The June 2 assault marks another grim milestone in the ongoing escalation, leading to more civilian deaths and widespread infrastructure destruction.
Scale of Aggression Highlights Need for Stronger International Support
During his speech, Zelensky provided a detailed breakdown of the weaponry used in the attack to illustrate its sheer scale: “Five Kalibr cruise missiles—that’s 145 components. 33 Iskander missiles—1,122 components. 650 attack drones of various types—more than 17,000 components.” These figures lay bare the magnitude of the aggression and underscore why Ukraine urgently requires bolstered defensive capabilities.
As the situation remains highly volatile, Ukrainian authorities continue to call on the global community for sustained support in countering Russian aggression. This attack highlights not only the military challenges Ukraine faces but also its critical need for enhanced intelligence cooperation to mitigate the risks of future strikes. Given the escalating conflict, it is vital that the international community closely monitors developments and responds decisively to security threats in the region.
